Spring Sounds in Greenwood: Hush Puppy Music Co-op’s Upcoming Shows
In Greenwood, live music pops up anywhere, even in unexpected places. One night it fills a historic downtown building. Another evening, it echoes through a local museum. That sense of discovery is part of what makes Hush Puppy Music Co-op and shapes Greenwood’s music scene.
The nonprofit concert series partners with locations across the city to host intimate performances that bring touring artists straight to the Delta. The goal is simple: connect music lovers in Greenwood while expanding appreciation for the music arts in the community.
This spring, two upcoming shows on April 14 and May 5 continue that mission with evenings of live music, community gathering and the laid-back energy that has made the series a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
Bringing Great Music to Greenwood
Hush Puppy Music Co-op grew from a shared love of live music and a desire to experience more of it close to home. Founder and curator Scott Barretta explains the vision clearly.
“We started the nonprofit Hush Puppy Music Co-op to bring to Greenwood touring artists who we’d normally have to travel good distances to see. We intentionally book a diverse variety of music and are happy to have attracted a wide range of the local population.”
Since 2019, the series has welcomed musicians across blues, folk, indie and Americana. Many of the artists are touring performers who are passing through the region, making each show a special opportunity for Greenwood audiences to experience music they might otherwise miss.
Music in Unique Greenwood Spaces
One of the things that makes a Hush Puppy show memorable is the setting.
Because the co-op partners with different locations throughout the city, every concert has its own atmosphere. Past shows have taken place in venues such as Old City Hall, the Museum of the Mississippi Delta and other popular community spaces that transform into intimate listening rooms for the night.
The result feels less like a traditional concert and more like a living experience. Friends gather, conversations spark between songs and the audience sits just a few feet away from performers who might normally sell out much larger stages.
