Pedal Through the Delta: Bikes, Blues & Bayous Returns to Greenwood August 2nd
Greenwood gears up to welcome cyclists from across the region for one of Mississippi’s most beloved summer traditions: the 18th annual Bikes, Blues & Bayous cycling tour. Set for Saturday, August 2, 2025, and hosted once again by the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce, this signature ride combines rich Southern culture, scenic beauty and the kind of unforgettable hospitality that keeps riders coming back year after year.
Starting and ending in historic downtown Greenwood, there are four routes to choose from: 62, 46, 20 or 10 miles. The routes wind through the flat, fast terrain of the Mississippi Delta, showcasing miles of open farmland, blues history, and the charm of Greenwood. It’s a favorite among cyclists, with nearly 900 riders annually, and has been named a Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 Event multiple times in recent years.
What makes this event stand out isn’t just the landscape; it’s the people. Locals line the route to offer encouragement, water stations are stocked with snacks and Southern smiles, and live music creates a rhythm that keeps spirits high. Riders return year after year, drawn by the sense of community and what many call the warmest welcome in the South.
But the ride is just the beginning. Greenwood delivers a full weekend escape that goes far beyond the bike ride. After you cross the finish line, treat yourself to the town’s standout food scene, whether it’s Delta-inspired dishes at Fan & Johnny’s, soulful favorites at Veronica’s or timeless Southern elegance at Giardina’s. Rest easy at the luxurious Alluvian Hotel or unwind in the laid-back comfort of Tallahatchie Flats, a rustic retreat nestled in the heart of cotton country.
And when you’re not riding or refueling, there’s plenty to explore. Browse local shops downtown, take in the powerful Civil Rights and Blues Trail sites, or visit the Museum of the Mississippi Delta, where exhibits like America at the Crossroads bring history and culture to life. This is more than a ride – it’s your invitation to experience Greenwood at its finest.
New for 2025: Kick off your weekend with a catered pre-ride dinner on Friday, August 1, during registration. It’s a great chance to meet fellow riders and soak in the Greenwood vibes before Saturday’s big ride. Also, there will be a meet and greet for “The Real Bike Guy,” Bill Humphreys, whose cycling career spans six decades as a pro racer, coach and advocate for the sport.
