Greenwood Soul Mates – Lindsey Uithoven

For us, “soul” represents the unique essence each person contributes to their community, weaving together stories, talents, cultural experiences and more into something distinctly Greenwood. In this place, that tapestry comes alive through individuals whose deep ties to food, music and history shape the character of the town and make it an extraordinary place to visit. These remarkable individuals are our “Soul Mates.”

Spend a little time in Greenwood and you begin to notice a different rhythm. Conversations do not feel rushed. Familiar faces appear in everyday places. There is a quiet awareness of one another here, a sense that people are paying attention not just to their own lives but to the community around them and the small moments that make it feel like home.

Lindsey Uithoven stepped into that rhythm and never really left it behind. Originally from the Memphis area, she describes the contrast simply.

“I’m originally from the Memphis area, and comparing life there to Greenwood is so different. I love the big city, but Greenwood just feels like family. You never know you’re missing that kind of sense of community until you have it.”

That feeling of connection is what shaped her decision to build both her life and her work here.

A Community That Feels Personal

Ask Lindsey what defines Greenwood and her answer always comes back to the people.

Relationships here do not stay surface level. You see the same faces often enough that familiarity turns into something deeper. Over time, those repeated moments build trust, friendship and a shared responsibility for the place everyone calls home.

“You don’t get the same interactions in a big city that you would here. You see and live amongst the same people every day and so you really do get to know them. It really is a place where relationships do matter.”

In Greenwood, connection is not occasional. It is constant. And it shows in how people show up for one another.

Work That Brings People Together

In her role as Executive Director of United Way of Leflore County, Lindsey sits at the center of that connection.

Her work is rooted in bringing people together, aligning resources with needs and supporting the organizations that strengthen the community. It depends on trust, collaboration and a shared willingness to get involved.

“I just had a desire to make an impact in the community for those in need. And in Greenwood, I have the opportunity to see that impact while supporting causes that are near and dear to me.”

She sees that spirit reflected back often. People volunteer, organizations step up and support shows up in ways that feel steady and genuine.

“It’s not just a job. It’s wanting to have a purpose.”

In Greenwood, that sense of purpose is not rare. It is part of the fabric of how the community functions. Outside of work, Lindsey’s life follows the same grounded pace she sees in the community around her.

Family, friends and everyday routines shape a rhythm that feels steady rather than rushed. There is space for both involvement and rest, for showing up and stepping back when needed. Greenwood makes room for that balance. It is a place where life can be full without feeling overwhelming.

An Easy Place to Experience

Visitors pick up on that balance quickly. Greenwood does not try to impress through scale or noise. It draws you in more quietly. A weekend might include a walk through downtown, a memorable meal or simply time spent without an agenda.

“Greenwood really will grow on you. It really and truly does.”

There is an ease to it. No pressure to move from one thing to the next. Just space to settle in and experience the place as it is. And often, that is what stays with people long after they leave.

When visitors come to Greenwood, the effect is felt immediately.

Restaurants, shops and gathering spaces see new energy. But the impact stretches further than that. Visits turn into conversations, recommendations and stories that travel beyond the Delta and bring new curiosity back to the region.

From Lindsey’s perspective, that visibility matters. It supports what is already strong while creating room for continued growth in a way that feels natural to the community.

The Heart of Greenwood

If Lindsey had to describe Greenwood in one word, she chooses dynamic.

“Greenwood is so dynamic. It’s quiet but loud, simple but complicated. And the soul that’s here is authentic. Everything and everyone here is so authentically themselves and so authentically Greenwood.”

At the center of it all are people who care deeply about their neighbors, their work and the place they call home. That sense of care is what gives Greenwood its identity and keeps people invested in its future.

It’s also what makes it easy to understand why so many choose to stay.
