Freedom School Bombing

In 1964, the Sunflower County Baptist Association donated a building at this site to the Council of Federated Organizations, creating a vital hub for civil rights activism and a Freedom School dedicated to education and empowerment. Tragically, the building was firebombed and destroyed in 1965, a stark reminder of the fierce resistance faced by the movement. Today, a marker commemorates the significance of this location and the courage of those who fought for justice here.
