Theodore Roosevelt Mason Howard was a driving force in Mississippi’s civil rights movement as the founder of the Regional Council of Negro Leadership, where he championed economic progress and voter rights. In addition to his activism, Howard served as chief surgeon at Taborian Hospital in the 1940s. A marker at the hospital site now honors his dual legacy as both a pioneer in healthcare and a leader dedicated to social change and justice.
